Title: Industrial Automation Engineer – Mechanical
Reports to: Engineering Manager
Education Required: Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Mechanical or Electromechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
Job Summary:
As an Automation Engineer at Du-Co Ceramics, you’ll have the opportunity to be part of the process from start to finish. As a member of our team, you’ll be expected to create project plans, design solutions, and assist in building, implementing, and supporting them into our production facilities. The position requires a self-driven individual who embraces a challenge and finds satisfaction in seeing a solution through. No two projects are the same, and creative new solutions are part of the job.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Mechanical system design for automated equipment and manufacturing equipment
- Experience with pneumatic & electric actuators, robotics, hydraulics, etc.
- Create machine layout designs/drawings, detailed drawings for fabrication and other related documentation.
- Develop mechanical bill of materials and ensure purchase of these materials through company vendors.
- Robotic system configuration and programming
- Plan, engineer and design automated processes, machines, equipment, systems, or fixtures to satisfy requirements.
- Write all necessary automation instructions and training documents.
- Train personnel to maintain and operate automated processes, machines, equipment, systems and fixtures.
- Develop and recommend improvements to existing automation and processes as directed and prioritized by the Engineering Manager.
- Develop new automation and processes as directed and prioritized.
- Develop and support the implementation of new or changed processes, equipment, systems or fixtures.
- Support Estimating with new processes and equipment design.
- Support production in troubleshooting existing processes and automation.
- Manage engineering projects and resources as necessary according to established plans.
- Minimal travel required, only as needed, to our Monroe, NC facility for process improvements.
- Standard 8:00-4:30 work day.
- May be assigned other miscellaneous duties as required by supervisor and/or executive management.
Experience Requirements:
- Proficiency in mechanical design - structural, pneumatic, hydraulic, electro-mechanical, etc.
- Knowledge of PLC Software
- Experience in Studio 5000 Allen Bradley PLC programming (RSLogix 500 a plus) and Fanuc programming, Cognex In-Sight and/or Trio Motion TrioBASIC a plus.
- Knowledge and understanding of electrical components (servos, drives, PLC's, controls, HMI, sensors, etc.) for use in automation and troubleshooting of said components.
- Knowledge of robotics, preferably FANUC
- Possesses excellent manufacturing equipment troubleshooting skills
- Manufacturing / production environment mindset
- Additional experience and education are at the discretion of the Executive Management.
