Entry level positions available for an established ceramic manufacturer. Du-Co Ceramics Company is family owned and has been in business for over 75 years.

Primary Function of the Job:  To provide for the efficient operation of all kilns accordance with established procedures.

The Kiln Operator B position is an entry level Kiln Operator position and may be filled, as required, from personnel who have demonstrated the following:

  1. Ability to prepare daily production records without error.
  2. Ability to load saggers/plates/trays using proper procedures.
  3. Ability to load/unload all kilns.
  4. Ability to perform sidework including go; no-go gauging.
  5. Ability to learn to trouble shoot roller kiln controls plus make adjustments in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  6. Ability to learn operate roller mic in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  7. Ability to learn to operate tumbler and drier in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  8. Ability to utilize education and on-the-job training experience to efficiently perform job duties.
  9. Satisfactorily completed training accordance with Du-Co Ceramics training format.
  10. Good attitude, attendance and adherence to company policies and rules.

Duties Required:

  1. Assists in the performance of kiln start up, operation and shut down in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  2. Assists in the accurate documentation and records all changes to kilns as they occur and in accordance with standard operating instructions.
  3. Follows standard operating procedures and emergency procedures in the event of fire, loss of power and kiln wrecks immediately contacting designated emergency management contacts.
  4. Operates respective kilns in accordance with standard operating procedures for each kiln.
  5. Loads ware onto firing fixtures and/or loads pre-filled firing fixtures onto designated kiln in accordance with work order and/or written instructions.
  6. Unloads ware into appropriate trays or boxes as per work order instructions and established procedures
  7.  Performs operator preventive maintenance in accordance with established procedures
  8. Prepares daily production records.
  9. Performs side work as directed and time permitting.
  10. Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  11. Completes training in accordance with Du-Co Ceramics training format.

May be assigned any other miscellaneous duties as directed by supervisor and/or executive management.

Tools and Equipment:  Kiln refractories including, but not limited to, saggers, plates, bars, conveyors, basic hand tools, material handling equipment, refractory gauges, roller mikes, lubricating tools, tape gun, tape measures, micrometers and other measuring devices.

Materials:  Ceramic materials, lubricants and temperature control materials.

These are not assembly line positions. Work environment is not climate controlled.

Schedules:  3rd shift (10:00pm-6:30am). Sunday night-Thursday night. Will train on 1st shift. Overtime as needed.. Lone Operator Position.
