Machinist - Class C (to be trained and become Class A) Requirements:
- Simpler and more routine work than Machinist- Class A
- This class of machinists applies mainly to operating an engine lathe and also one who has a meager knowledge of the operation of a milling machine and surface grinder.
- Must furnish tools.
- Must have at least one or more years experience.
To become a Machinist - Class A:
- Must be thoroughly familiar with fundamental movements and adjustments on any type of engine or tool room lathe.
- Must be capable of figuring gears for cutting threads on any lathe.
- Capable of handling taper attachments and all other lathe operations.
- Skilled to perform any lathe work to within .0005 provided the machine is within this accuracy.
- Must know how to grind tools for all types of work and for all metals commonly used.
- Must have a working knowledge and ability to operate a Universal Milling Machine.
- Must be capable of properly making set-ups for any type of jobs suitable to Universal Milling Machine.
- Must be familiar with and know when to use different types of cutters and mills and how to prepare and sharpen these tools.
- Must know proper feeds and speeds for specific type or work different materials.
- Must be able to operate a surface grinder.
- Must be able to perform any grinding operation including set-ups and capable of efficiently producing grinding work to within .0003 provided the machine is within this accuracy.
- Must know how to dress grinding wheels for all types of simple grinding work.
- Must be able to set up and operate a drill press efficiently.
- Must have at least three or more years experience.
- Must furnish tools.
PRIMARY FUNCTION OF THE JOB: To provide for the making of dies utilized in the
production process in accordance with established procedures. Receives supervision from the Tool
and Die Supervisor; direction received from higher level Tool and Die job classifications.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT: Basic plus precision measuring instruments, inspection tools and
equipment, heat treating furnace, sand blasting machine and other equipment generally utilized in a
tool and die shop.
MATERIAL: Carbon steel, tool steel, carbide, oil, sand blasting media, diamond paste, solder,
emery cloth and other types of material commonly used in a tool and die shop.
WORKING PROCEDURE: Required to utilize education, training and job experience to
perform job responsibilities. Required to satisfactorily complete training in accordance with Du-Co
Ceramics Company training format.
Pay rate:
Machinist - Class C = $19.88/hour
Machinist - Cass B = $20.94/hour
Machinist - Class A = $22.04/hour
